Tajima Housing Complex is a large-scale residential development in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, originally opened in 1965. Due to aging, renovation of existing buildings and phased redevelopment have been carried out. This project involved the development of a visual identity (VI) and signage system to establish a framework that visually connects the existing and new buildings, while also allowing for future expansion to upcoming residential blocks.

To create a cohesive visual identity across the entire complex, a new logotype and numeric typeface were designed. The logotype, based on the hiragana “tajima,” is composed of softly rounded, circular forms. The numeric typeface follows the same design principle. It features generous internal spaces and subtle variations in height, allowing it to harmonize with the calm atmosphere of the complex, which is surrounded by abundant greenery. In contrast to the often rigid character of housing estates, the design introduces a sense of softness and openness, quietly supporting the everyday lives of residents.

As part of the project, a perforated panel pattern—used as an architectural element in the new buildings—was also designed. Derived from the geometry of the logotype, the pattern extends across walls and ceilings, giving the residential buildings a gentle and cohesive expression.

田島団地は、埼玉県さいたま市において1965年に運用開始された大規模団地である。老朽化に伴い、住棟の改修と建替えが段階的に進められている。新旧の住棟を視覚的につなぎながら、今後整備される新住棟へ展開するサインの骨格をつくるため、VI・サイン計画を行った。

団地全体の視覚的な統一感を生み出すため、ロゴタイプと数字フォントを新たにデザインしている。平仮名の「たじま」のロゴタイプは、ふくらみを持たせた円形を基調として構成し、数字フォントも同様の原理によって設計している。豊かな緑に囲まれた団地の穏やかな空気感に調和するよう、フトコロを大きく取り、高さに抑揚を与える設計とした。硬質になりがちな団地の環境に対し、おおらかな印象をもたらし、住人の生活に静かに寄り添う存在となった。

本プロジェクトでは、新棟の建築要素として用いられる有孔パネルのパターンデザインも行った。ロゴタイプの造形から派生したパターンが壁面や天井に広がり、住棟にやわらかな表情を与えている。
